Safritt Earns Two Titles At ECAC Championships

PITTSBURGH--Junior Stacie Safritt won one of three Panthers to finish first in an event, as the women's swimming and diving team finished eighth with 200 points at the ECAC Championships held at Trees Pool over the weekend. Safritt (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) recorded first-place finishes in the 50 and 100 free with times of 23.77 and 51.25, respectively. Swimming alongside Safritt in the both events, freshman Caitlin Trant (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) earned a third-place finish in the 50 free (24.17) and placed 14th in the 100 free. Additionally, freshman Kristen McMullan (West Chester, Pa./Henderson) swam for a second-place finish in the 50 free at 23.91. Leading the Panthers in the breaststroke over the weekend, junior Ruth Seiffert (Boothwyn, Pa./Garnet Valley) won the 100 breast at 1:04.98 for the best time of the day. Also earning a first-place finish, senior Brittany Stevens (Peachtree City, Ga./Starr's Mill/Florida State) won the 100 fly at 55.44. Placing in the finals, senior Caitlyn Harrington (Richboro, Pa./UConn) and freshman Katie Cutrell (Ligonier, Pa./Greensburg Central Catholic) finished sixth and ninth, respectively, in the 400 IM. Cutrell also claimed fifth in the 500 free at 5:00.03. Improving upon her prelims finish, sophomore Ryan Kishbaugh (Danville, Pa./Danville Area) placed fourth in the 200 back (2:02.77).
Several of the Panthers will travel to Columbus, Ohio on March 20-22 for the NCAA Championships. Information on those earning bids will be available at a later date. |
