March 19, 2008

PITTSBURGH -Two divers of the University of Pittsburgh men's swimming and diving team earned berths in the 2008 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships held from Thursday, March 27, through Saturday, March 29, in Federal Way, Wash. Those earning a selection were junior Alex Volovetski and senior Jeremy Stultz.

Volovetski (Brandon, Fla./Armwood) earned his first trip to the NCAAs after dominating at the Zone A Meet, against fierce northeast competition. This season, Volovetski was named the 2008 Big East Most Outstanding Diver after winning the 1M and 3M boards at the conference meet.

Additionally, Stultz (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) will be making his third consecutive appearance in the NCAA Championships, after placing second at zones. Last year, Stultz earned All-America honors with a seventh-place finish on the 3M board.

The Big East Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Stultz advanced to the finals on both boards at the Big East Championships, and placed fourth overall in both events.

Volovetski and Stultz led the Big East Conference as the top divers, prior to dominating on both boards at the diving zones.
