2007-08 Schedule (pdf)

PITTSBURGH--The University of Pittsburgh released its entire 31-game 2007-08 men's basketball schedule on Wednesday. Pitt will play through an expanded 18-game Big East schedule, face a difficult 13-game non-conference slate, host 18 home games at the Petersen Events Center and appear on national television 17 times. ESPN Regional and FSN Pittsburgh will release broadcast schedules at a later date.

"Overall we will face one of the nation's most challenging schedules," Pitt Head Coach Jamie Dixon said. "This is the most demanding non-conference schedule we will play in my nine years here. When looking at strength of schedule and our road games last year, our schedule was considered the nation's most difficult. Once again, we have positioned ourselves to have the highest rated strength of schedule in the country."

In Pitt's expanded 18-game Big East Conference schedule, the Panthers will face all 15 league opponents at least once. Pitt's three repeat opponents include Cincinnati, Villanova and West Virginia. Pitt will play nine home games and nine away contests. Home opponents at the Petersen Events Center will include Cincinnati (Feb. 27), DePaul (March 9), Georgetown (Jan. 14), Louisville (Feb. 24), Providence (Feb. 12), Rutgers (Jan. 26), Seton Hall (Jan. 12), Villanova (Jan. 30) and West Virginia (Feb. 7). The Panthers' 2007-08 road opponents include Cincinnati (Jan. 19), Connecticut (Feb. 2), Marquette (Feb. 15), Notre Dame (Feb. 21), St. John's (Jan. 23), USF (Jan. 9), Syracuse (March 1), Villanova (Jan. 6) and West Virginia (March 3).

Highlighting Pitt's 2007-08 non-conference schedule are games against Duke in the Aeropostale Classic at New York's Madison Square Garden (Dec. 20), at Washington (Dec. 8), versus Oklahoma State at the Petersen Events Center (Dec. 15) and a contest at Dayton (Dec. 29). The Panthers will play at Duquesne on Dec. 5. All of those games will be nationally televised in addition to many others.

Overall, Pitt will play nine non-conference home games. As part of the Hispanic College Fund Challenge, Pitt opens its season against Houston Baptist (Nov. 9), then hosts North Carolina A&T (Nov. 10), Saint Louis (Nov. 11) and Mississippi Valley State (Nov. 15). Pitt will also play home games against Buffalo (Nov. 23), Boston U. (Nov. 27), Toledo (Dec. 1) and a national television game against Lafayette (Jan. 2).

Additionally, the Panthers begin their season with exhibition contests against Pitt-Johnstown on Oct. 31 and Indiana (Pa.) on Nov. 4. In 2003, the NCAA mandated NCAA Division I schools to play non-Division I programs in men's basketball exhibition games. Over the past three seasons, Pitt has taken advantage of this policy to host several local schools including Carnegie Mellon (2004 and 2006), Indiana, Pa. (2005), California, Pa. (2006), Slippery Rock (2005) and Gannon (2004).

Pitt returns six letterwinners and two starters from a team that finished 29-8 overall (12-4 in the Big East), advanced to NCAA Sweet Sixteen for the fourth time in the last six years and appeared in the NCAA Tournament for a school-record sixth consecutive season. Pitt's six straight appearances rank as the best in the Big East followed by Villanova at three.

The Big East Championship is scheduled for March 12-15 at New York City's Madison Square Garden while the NCAA Tournament begins March 20-23 at eight different venues. The NCAA Regionals are March 27-30 while the NCAA Final Four is April 5-7 in San Antonio, Texas.
