LONG BEACH, Calif.--Senior Diana Andreyko and freshman Amy Town recorded double-doubles, as Pitt's women's volleyball team dropped a hard-fought 3-2 match to Long Beach State in its first game of the Long Beach Tournament. The Panthers dropped the match with scores of 30-25, 21-30, 30-23, 25-30 and 11-15.

Andreyko (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) led the squad with a game-high 23 kills and 13 digs in the contest, for her 12th double-double of the season. She also upped her career kills record to 1,845 in the match.

On the other hand, Town (Orillia, Ont./Orillia) tallied her first double-double of the year with 18 kills and 10 digs. She became the sixth Panther to do so this season.

Also posting double figures in kills were sophomore Meagan Dooley (West Chester, Ohio/Lakota West) with 16 and redshirt sophomore Melissa Stadelman (Pittsburgh, Pa./Carrick), who added 11.

Dooley and junior Jessica Moses (North Lomstead, Ohio/Lutheran West) tallied eight blocks a piece, while sophomore Michelle Rossi (Cleveland, Ohio/Padua Franciscan) chipped in 23 digs.

With those seven block assists, Moses is just one shy of tying the third-best total of 296 career block assists. Her eight total blocks in the match moved her into fifth with 336 total blocks to date.

Pitt (15-15) won the first game, as Andreyko tallied seven kills and Moses added four blocks. The Panthers led 7-3 in the early part of the game. However after six ties and three lead changes the game tied once again at 15-15 due to a Pitt service error. Andreyko would then record the sideout with a kill, assisted by junior Nicole Taurence (Trenton, Mich./Trenton).

 

 

Taurence recorded 63 assists in the game.

Long Beach State (22-6) would then even the match at 1-1 after holding the Panthers to a .146 hitting clip, including 10 attack errors.

Town gave Pitt a 2-1 lead in the contest, as she posted a team-high six kills and five digs in the third game. However, Dooley led the Panthers with six kills and a solo block in the game four loss.

In the tiebreaker, three Panthers recorded a positive hitting percentage. Long Beach also capitalized on the five Pitt attack errors, netting 10 kills of their own. LBS out-hit the Panthers as it recorded a .193 hitting percentage to Pitt's .174 in the game.

Pitt faces Cal-Santa Barbara on Saturday at 8 p.m.
